Samsung left the audience intrigued with a sneak peek at its upcoming innovation – the Galaxy Ring. Touted as a “powerful and affordable” fitness device, Samsung has kept details scarce, offering only a render and the device’s name.
Hints about the Galaxy Ring emerged last year when Samsung filed a patent for a smart ring with capabilities such as ECG monitoring and smart home management. The anticipation grew further with a subtle mention in the Samsung Health app, hinting at its health-centric functionalities.
In an exclusive interview with Techradar, Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s head of customer experience, shed some light on the Galaxy Ring’s features, particularly emphasizing its prowess in sleep tracking. “We’re creating some things with Samsung Health that are really amazing (regarding sleep). There’s already hardware and software. But we’re looking to create a complete package that people will use at scale. That will happen later this year,” explained Chomet.
With this revelation, it’s likely that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Ring in the next Unpacked event, expected between July and August. The company has also hinted at a major Health program update later in the year, suggesting a synchronized launch with the Galaxy Ring.
While Samsung enters the smart ring arena, it faces competition from the likes of Oura, which has already made strides in the field. Oura’s third-generation Ring, released in 2022, boasts features like sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring during workouts, and daily activity measurement. The Galaxy Ring is poised to cover similar functionalities, and with Samsung’s commitment to innovation, it might introduce compelling AI-driven features.
As anticipation builds for the Galaxy Ring’s official debut, the tech world eagerly awaits Samsung’s foray into the smart ring landscape, envisioning a device that seamlessly integrates health and fitness tracking into daily life.
