Samsung-Owned Harman Expands Audio Dominance with Roon Platform Acquisition

Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung, has acquired the Roon audio platform. Renowned for its capability to synchronize music playback across various devices in different rooms, irrespective of brand, Roon’s integration into Harman’s portfolio marks a significant leap in audio technology.

Harman, boasting a global presence and ownership of esteemed audio brands like AKG, dbx, JBL, and Soundcraft, has been under Samsung’s umbrella since 2017. The synergy between Harman’s expertise and Samsung’s influence has already been evident in the evolution of sound quality in Samsung headphones and smartphones.

Dave Rogers, President of the Lifestyle Division at Harman, expressed the company’s commitment to “create exceptional sound quality” for partners and consumers worldwide through this acquisition. Enno Vandermeer, CEO of Roon, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the collaboration will provide Roon with the scale, resources, and global reach of a technology leader.

Importantly, the Roon brand will maintain its autonomy, allowing it to invest in its growth and future endeavors. This move positions Roon to leverage the expansive resources of Harman while retaining the innovative edge that has defined its platform.

As part of the collaboration, Harman aims to share its expertise in data management and consumer engagement with all partners, including the tech giant Samsung Mobile. The acquisition sets the stage for groundbreaking developments in the audio industry, as these two industry leaders join forces to shape the future of sound technology. This move reinforces Harman’s commitment to excellence and innovation, solidifying its position as a key player in the audio electronics landscape.
