Whatsapp introduces a feature for profile pictures

WhatsApp is reportedly testing an interesting new feature that will allow users to choose a unique “avatar” to represent themselves online. The feature is currently available to some beta users of the Android app.WABetaInfo reports that the Meta-owned instant messaging program will soon release an avatar feature for Android , iOS and desktop users around the world. If you use WhatsApp on Android 2.22.21.3, the new Avatar feature is already available in beta. It will soon be available to beta testers on iOS and desktops.
Particular caution is required when using social networking apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram , Telegram, etc. “Numerous social media sites (WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, etc.) are spreading fake messages falsely claiming that a holiday offer leads users to gift links and prizes,” the CERT-In board warns. Female victims are the focus of the attackers’ campaign, which encourages them to spread the link via WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram. Moreover, it explains that most of these malicious websites have China.CN domain endings, as well as some others such as .XYZ and .top.
It’s a well-crafted scheme with many insinuations designed to trick you into giving up your money. In the message, the user will see a link that they are asked to forward to their loved ones. What’s worse, after the “Congratulations” message, those who click on the link are presented with a survey. Visitors are asked to enter their personal information on malicious websites to receive the reward.

How to avoid online scams?
The first and foremost precaution you can take to protect yourself from such scammers is not to click on links from sources you don’t know and don’t trust. If in doubt, it’s best to double check to see if the website or link in question is legitimate and not a copy. It is important to keep in mind that a legitimate business or organization will never ask for your password directly.
Never respond to a request for personal information or login credentials in an email or text message; this leaves you vulnerable to identity theft. Since these attacks often involve illegal financial transactions, it’s wise to place restrictions on transfers for UPI and other transactions through your bank.
